Passing of VP-4 Vet AX1 Stephen A. Andruszkewicz VP-4 1961 – 1963

Stephen (Steve/Andy) Anthony Andruszkewicz, 79, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at his home at Faria Beach in Ventura, CA.

Memorial services are still being organized and there is no set date at this time.  If you would like to be informed of services please contact his son, Paul Andruszkewicz, at pandruszkewicz@gmail.com

Steve served in the US Navy from Feb 1960 to Oct 1968.  After Boot Camp, Aviation Electronics Technician and VP-31 training, he was assigned to VP-4 from 1961 to 1963.  His subsequent assignments were to VP-9 from 1963 to 1964, a tour of Instructor Duty in AT “A” school in Millington from 1964 to 1967 and to VS-37 from 1967 to 1968.

Steve was a driving force behind the VP-4 Veterans Association and reunion group.  He and his wife, Gloria, were well known to many of our VP-4 Vets, not just those he served with.  He will be missed.

Steve was born on June 23, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY to Benjamin and Marie.  He grew up in Queens, NY and graduated from Rice High School in Harlem, NY.

After the Navy, Steve held careers in various parts of the country before finding the movie industry and working for E.C. Prop Rentals, Inc. in the early 1990’s.  He moved from being employee #2 of the company and a sales representative, to general manager of the company, to eventually taking over ownership of the company in 2003.  He enjoyed the movie business and found great joy in watching television series, films, and commercials and seeing the company’s inventory on “the big screen”.  Steve’s son, Paul, started with the company in 2004, and by 2006 the family began transitioning duties and ownership to Paul to allow Steve and his wife Gloria to enjoy life outside of the day-to-day grind of active responsibility and to “retire” (he stayed active with the company until the end as much as he could).

Steve married Gloria in 1975 in Yuma, AZ and they were happily married for 46 years.  Steve was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin J. Andruszkewicz; his mother, Marie P. Andruszkewicz (born Teter); and his brother, Joseph.  Steve’s two other brothers, Philip and James Andruszkewicz, and his niece Alison Andruszkewicz, are still with us.

Steve is survived by his wife, Gloria of Ventura, CA; his son, Paul of Los Angeles, California; his stepson, Ralph Avenenti of Hong Kong; his stepdaughter, Michelle Johnston of West Springfield, Massachusetts; and his grandchildren, Katelyn Johnston (20) of West Springfield, Massachusetts, Christopher (17), Anthony (15), and Benjamin (10) Avenenti of Hong Kong, and Emily Andruszkewicz (4) of Los Angeles, CA.
